Looking for a place for a sun and sand vacation? Perhaps you’ve thought of Hawaii. But maybe you think it’s too crowded.

Consider Kauai, the least crowded of the major Hawaiian islands. Want to hear 10 reasons why?

Put your face in the water (wearing a mask or goggles) at any beach and watch the colorful fish. You don’t even need a snorkel.

2. There are sheltered beaches for kids on the sunny south side.

3. Adventurous folks will find zipline tours, helicopter tours, and plenty of opportunities to kayak to see amazing scenery.

4. The coast of northwest Kauai caught the eyes of several Hollywood directors, who used it in movies from South Pacific to Jurassic Park to King Kong and Raiders of the Lost Ark. It will catch your eye too! Take a boat, kayak, or helicopter to see it.

5. You can use frequent flyer miles to get there.

7. If you like scuba diving, you’ll like the fact that outfitters tend to operate more safely under U.S. liability laws than in other, non-U.S. tropical locations.

7. Kauai is the least crowded of the major Hawaiian islands. This is great depending on whether you like or hate crowds.

8. Endangered monk seals take naps on public beaches. Endangered sea turtles can be found in the waters out a little ways from the beach. Enjoy!

9. You get to learn about Niihau, the Forbidden Island, and see it from 17 miles away, low on the southwest horizon.

10. Worried about funding a vacation? Using U.S. currency at a U.S. tropical destination may be quite a benefit for you.

So, consider Kauai!
