What To Do About Burn Out
Burn out can happen to anyone, really at any time. Common signs of burn out include depression, mental, emotional and spiritual fatigue, over reacting to small things, lack of concern over work or tasks, anger, feelings of powerlessness, weight loss or gain, insomnia, negativity and other similar signs.
It is vital steps be done to overcome burn out before it causes major impact to your life’s goals and directions.
Several suggestions will be offered to help offset burn out. If possible, take a vacation. For those that it is impossible to do, or at least when you need to, let’s look at some alternatives.
Try to clear your calendar of everything for a while that is not a total necessity.
On the physical level, take extra good care of your body. Eat organic healthy foods, get exercise especially some fresh air, take vitamins and get some extra rest.
When ready find some time to pinpoint the tasks and situations that seem to really overwhelm and drain you. Once you identify those, see if those can be delegated to others, hire help for that or find other ways to compensate for those taxing duties. Also find what refreshes you and increase those activities.
Talk to someone else, outside of the situation, could be a friend, family, life coach, counseling, etc. They may be able to offer insights and suggestions you can’t see. Sometimes it’s tough to see the trees through the forest.
Give these suggestions some time to see how they are working for you. If you’re better, then maintain that better life balance. If it’s the same or worse, it may be a time to really look at the goals you have set and where you want to go. Sometimes past goals no longer are a good fit and we need the freedom to change our goals. But do it from a position of strength and not just desperation to change, just for the purpose of something being different.
Sometimes, burn out can be a reality check that our life is out of balance in some way and adjustments are good and very healthy and necessary to our lives. I believe there are very real seasons in each person’s lives’ and perhaps it can be a changing of one season to another new one. It is important however, to step back and see what our bodies are telling us when we experience burn out. Who knows, perhaps it may even be one of those “hidden blessings” that we look back on years later and think, “you know, that was the beginning of a real, positive change in my life.

How to Deal With Difficulty: Metaphysical Lessons from Job
For lots of people, the Book of Job is a difficult book. It relates the story of a righteous man who loses every precious thing he possesses, who suffers horribly, who seems victimized by the very God he worships. Let’s start with a snapshot of Job’s story. We only have space for a few glimpses although our journey will take us through the entire book of Job, chapters 1 thru 42.
The narrative begins with a description of Job as a man ‘perfect and upright, one that feared God, and turned away from evil.’ (1:1) Job’s goodness is so incredible that God says to Satan in (1:8) ‘There is none like him on earth.’
Satan implies that Job is pious because he has been blessed and protected. Satan says, ‘Put forth thy hand and touch all that he has and he will renounce you to your face.’ (1:11)
Jehovah allows Satan to deprive Job of everything he has in order to test him. Job loses all of his material possessions, his children, his livestock, his servants, everything! Job is crushed, but he still continues to worship God.
When Jehovah rejoices that Job continues to praise Him, Satan mentions that only Job’s possessions and family have been affected. He suggests to God that if Job himself is stricken, he will turn from God.
So Jehovah says to Satan, “Behold he is in thy hand, only spare his life.” (2:6) Job comes down with painful sores and boils from head to foot (2:7). Chapter 3, verse 25 explains Job’s difficult situation. It says: “What Job feared came upon him.” Sound familiar? Have you ever found yourself in a similar situation? Listen to what happens next.
Three of his closest friends (Eliphaz, Bildad, and Zophar) learn of his plight and come to comfort him. Chapters 3-31 contain conversations between Job and his friends.
Eliphaz believes Job is suffering because he has sinned; Bildad ponders that if Job was more upright, he would not be in the trouble he’s in; Zophar rebukes Job for being so self-righteous and fearful, and urges him to repent.
Job reproaches them for their judgmentalness and feels forsaken by his friends and God. “I have been wronged. I cry for help, but there is no justice.” (19:7)
At last Job looks deeply within himself, and then declares in (31:35) “Let the Almighty answer me!” At that moment, his three friends leave him and Elihu comes to his rescue. With the arrival of Elihu, Satan retreats. The story ends with Jehovah giving Job twice as much as he had before (42:10) and Job lives happily ever after.
Despite the happy ending, the literal interpretation of this story leaves more questions than answers. Why did Job need to suffer in the first place? Why did God co-conspire with Satan to bring about Job’s suffering? Are we simply pawns in the battle between good and evil? What was God thinking, you might ask?
All of these questions are perfectly natural questions — if we take this extraordinary story literally. The spiritual meaning of Job’s suffering becomes clear when we take a metaphysical look. Metaphysically, the Book of Job is a case study in Mind Action. And as we mentioned earlier, Chapter 3:25 tells us why Job suffered: “What Job feared came upon him.”
The people mentioned in the Book of Job are the thoughts, personal qualities, attitudes, and beliefs we hold in our consciousness. Their metaphysical interpretations are as follows:
Zehovah stands for the Christ of us, our God-Self
Satan symbolizes the tendency within each of us to forsake our divinity.
Eliphaz represents our half-hearted desire for spiritual wholeness
Bildad is our on-again/off-again acknowledgment of our Christ potential
Zophar represents our fault-finding nature which blames others for our troubles
Elihu is the Holy Spirit, the still small voice
Job represents that aspect of us that outwardly seems centered and dedicated to truth principles, but inwardly chooses to be deceived by outer appearances and then allows fears, doubts, and a sense of unworthiness to get the best of us.
So, here’s a metaphysical interpretation of the story of Job:
Our God-Self (Zehovah) honors our power of choice, even if it means allowing us to deny our divinity (Satan). When we experience difficult times, the Job in us, (represented by Eliphaz, Bildad, and Zohar) fears the worst in outer appearances and allows those things to get the best of us. However, once we remember that it is our own error thoughts which have caused us to miss the mark; we can go to our Christ Center (Elihu) and listen for that still small voice. In the story, God doubled Job’s prosperity. The number ‘2′ represents the two natures of us, human and divine, becoming one.
So, what is the message for us when we experience those dark night of the soul experiences?
1. We can change the outer world by changing our inner world. Become aware of what you are really thinking, and claim dominion over your thoughts. Choose to remember your Spiritual nature.
2. We can refuse to give power to outer appearance. When the ‘Job’ in us refuses to give power to outer appearances and accepts our divinity, it will be the second time fire is discovered by the human race - the fire of the discovery of our divinity. At that moment, there will be no more suffering, wars, or dis-ease. What an incredible world that will be!
3. We can claim our oneness with God. We suffer because we believe in the appearance of separation from God. And because we believe we are separated from God, we believe we are separate from one another. And because we deny our oneness with one another, we perpetuate a collective error consciousness, which gives power to outer appearances that reinforce our belief in our separation from our God-ness. That belief is the cause of all suffering.
So to avoid suffering, recognize your oneness with God! Your prosperity, inner peace, and joy will return to you, multiplied!

Confidence and Your Sense of Self
Just about every American has something they wish they could improve. Some wish to be taller, shorter, funnier, or richer to name a few. However there is a fine line between wanting to change something and low self esteem. People who suffer from low self esteem have a negative view of themselves, others, lack self confidence and perform poorly. It is difficult to measure the amount of people suffering from low self esteem as it usually is related to other emotional difficulties.
Lack of self confidence is not something learned overnight or from one isolated incident, it comes from repetitive criticism. Anyone, whether it is a parent, teacher or society can cause a person to have low self esteem. Some parents compare siblings, have unrealistic demands of children, or simply do not understand the child and berate them for it leaving the child feeling unloved and detached. Teachers sometimes are overly critical of students work or compare them to other children, making the child feel isolated and negative. Society can place very unrealistic expectations. Many preteen and teen girls feel the pressure to be thin simply from an article they read in a magazine.
According to Selfesteeminternational.org, we are losing one third of our youth to drugs, alcohol, eating disorders, jail, teen pregnancy, crimes and violence, drop outs, and suicide. The driving force to all of these issues is low self esteem. Some people have a hard time accepting negative self image is the cause for all of these problems. However Selfesteeminternational.org reported that 80-90% of pregnant teens do not give up their children because they feel a baby will give them the unconditional love they never had.
There are a range of programs which offer help with low self esteem, Some suffers attend counseling sessions, take medication, or read self help books. There are also new techniques being used to help build confidence, one of those is hypnosis. Hypnosis works with the subconscious mind to uncover what memories are causing the low self esteem. Once the memory has been identified, the hypnotist and patient work though the memory and the patient’s reaction to it. Together they help rebuild self confidence and work through all feelings, good or bad until the patient is satisfied with their progress. Since it works with the subconscious mind, it is easier to open up and express feelings you might not know you were having.
Some still feel that medication or therapy is the best and only way to treat self esteem issues. However, the medications only work with the chemical reactions in the body, it will not create a positive image or with the memories which are causing the patient pain and agony. Therapy can go on for months before the real trigger and emotional reaction is uncovered and it also deals with the mind on a conscious level. When dealing with the mind on a conscious level, patients often become very censored for fear they are being judged by the counselor. While under hypnosis they sub conscious mind takes over allowing for completely candid thoughts.
You have taken the biggest and most important step in your treatment. You realize you have a problem with self esteem and want to do something about it. You no longer want to go on feeling the way you do. The choice is yours, will you choose a treatment that could take months and months, will you choose a short term chemical fix or will you choose to open you mind and discovery why you feel the way you do, the choice is simple.

Tortoise or hare? Get Rich Fast or Slow
Get rich quick techniques have been around since long before the internet and continue to entice people into trying out such schemes. However, they often times don’t turn out that very well. If you are reading this article you have probably tried a few. Most of the get rich quick schemes, like the pyramid schemes, only waste your hope for dreams that never materialize.
It is the attitude one acquires with a get rich quick mentality that keeps one from achieving in the end.
Don’t be bothered though. The get rich slow method could actually work to make you rich. Get rich slow would not take you a lifetime. It is just a matter of putting things into their proper perspectives until you can afford to be leisurely, until you are rich!
Know and focus on your goal and constantly work on it. It is through the careful and calculated steps that you make your way to the top.
Save It
Get rich slowly through saving. The secret to effectively do this is for you to save before spending, not spend first and then save the leftovers. This can be very difficult to do considering the consumerism of our times, but this is tried and tested! At the start of every month, deposit 10% of your income in to bank account. You have the equivalent of a thirteenth month pay at the least!
Spend less
There is a common pattern that goes like this as your income increases, your necessities and wants also increase. However, to obtain to the goal of getting rich slowly, you must stay disciplined. Do not consume more than what you need. Make smart decisions when you spend your money. Do you really need it? Is this really important? Will this really make me happy or am I just satisfying a passing desire?
Make the Most out of Things
Make the most of everything you have or you own. Consume all things down to the last drop or down to the last fiber, before buying yourself new ones. Take your groceries for example. Imagine how much you could have saved from the things you throw away because they are beyond the expiration date already.
Don’t throw things out right away. Things that are no longer of use to you anymore could be good enough to sell in a garage sale or on e-bay. You can even try to earn from your trash through recycling. Every cent is worth saving.
Carefully plan the risks
You will find yourself taking positive actions to earn extra money, but when you do, study everything! When you do take out that cash from your pocket, make sure it goes to a good investment. Purchase something that goes up in value in the long run. Start a business that has a good market. Do everything you can to make it work out and bring in money to you.
Invest on yourself
Constantly improve on yourself and increase your own market value. Attend seminars and trainings. Pursue further studies. Obtain in everything you can. Don’t expect to do the same job and receive the same salary forever. You have to set your aim high, to be the best of whatever field you are in now. This will take time but before you know it, you are climbing your way up there.
You must also take care of yourself. Engage in a healthy and active lifestyle. Give yourself ample rest every now and then. There is truth in the saying that health is wealth. You can never do any of the things mentioned above if you are stuck sick on your bed. Or imagine that money you saved up spent on the pharmacy! You surely don’t want that.
We’ve all heard the story of the tortoise and the hare. We all know the moral of the tale. We only have to apply it to make it to our own goals. There is nothing wrong in wanting to make it rich in this lifetime, since we’ve only got one. That is why we have to make sure that the considerable amount of effort and time we exert on our everyday must bring us a good future. It is possible!

Stress can be Funny
Stress is funny. Not ha-ha funny, but odd funny. It can motivate you to improve your life. But, it can also ruin your health and your life.
It depends on how much stress you have and what kinds of stress. It also depends on what your past has taught you - how your mind has learned to deal with stress.
The physical signs of stress are meant to help you physically survive - fight or flight. In today’s world, this is only rarely helpful, since most stress today is mental.
Psychological stress will come from issues such as concern about money, relationships, and your health. Your body’s physical reaction to stress does not help these situations. Since these situations are common and long-lasting, your body can potentially be in a constant state of stress.
High stress can cause health problems as varied as muscle tension, sleep problems, mental confusion, depression and digestion problems. Health problems from stress eventually just increase the stress you already have.
Common sense tells you that managing your stress is important. There are all kinds of people and companies that will offer advice, products and services to help your stress. If every option worked the same for everyone, that would not be a problem. But, we’re all different. What works for your friend, may not work for you.
Looking into what causes you stress as well as how you experience stress.
It can be helpful to decide of your stress is situational or behavioral - Is your stress reaction appropriate for the current situation or does it feel blown out of proportion? Figuring this out can require some brutal honesty on your part.
If it is situational, what are the causes and can they be addressed in a practical manner? Is it realistic to expect yourself to get some form of exercise and a proper diet? (I know from personal experience, if I have high stress it is when my life is too busy to work-out or get to the grocery store for planned meals)
If your stress if from behaviors, spend some time reviewing the situation. Separate what is about now and what is about the past, such as memories of past emotional events. (the stronger the emotion, the more vivid the memory. The more vivid the memory, the stronger the stress you will continue to feel from it.)
After getting a better understanding of your stress, you will have a better idea of how to manage it.
Stress from current situations is easier to manage, once you find what works for you. Stress from behaviors or past experience may need outside help to get through and may take a little longer to deal with. But, it IS possible, and IS worth doing.
If you have a behavioral stress controlling your life, seek professional help. Medication is sometimes an answer, though many people that have used medication for stress, experience side effects that are a trade-off. They sometimes say they would rather feel stressed than live in a daily fog of medication.
Explore and educate yourself about your options. Then, make use of them. When it comes to improving your life, the only poor choice is to not try.

Sleep Deprivation Impacts Weight Loss!
Is sleep deprivation a problem that plagues your evenings? Reports have shown that over the past forty years, adults sleep at least two hours less than they used to. In that same forty-year span of time, the obesity epidemic has escalated from one in nine Americans to one in three!
It’s not just an American problem either. The University of British Columbia recently conducted a study with grim results. Adults between the ages of 32 and 49 are significantly more likely to be obese, if they sleep less than seven hours a night!
Two hormones, leptin and ghrelin, are responsible for these alarming statistics in sleep deprivation studies. Let’s take a closer look.
Leptin is responsible for regulating energy expenditure and energy intake. It’s main function is to tell your brain when you’ve had enough to eat.
Ghrelin’s main function is to trigger hunger. Your ghrelin levels are naturally higher prior to a meal and naturally lower following a meal.
How is sleep deprivation affected by these two hormones? When your body is deprived of adequate sleep, it produces more ghrelin, which is the appetite stimulator, but less leptin, which is the appetite depressant! In 2004, a study conducted at The University of Chicago demonstrated alarming results. Participants, who slept only four hours a night for two nights in a row, had an increase in their ghrelin levels by 28% and a decrease in their leptin levels by 18%!
This disturbing study indicates quite clearly that people who suffer from regular sleep deprivation have increased appetites. On top of that, the same lack of sleep disables their body’s natural ability to say, “I’m full.”
Sleep deprivation puts us at an increased risk for many health problems such as diabetes, heart disease, and certain types of cancer. Most researchers agree that the dangers are triggered when people get as little as 6-7 hours of sleep a night! These alarming hormonal changes and the resulting effect on hunger just might be the greatest jeopardy to our overall health as a result of sleep deprivation.

Elements of a Smoking Habit
Let’s pretend you wanted form a habit. And not just some wimpy habit, but a major, mind controlling, and life changing habit behavior. Where do you start to make it a really strong habit that will feel impossible to break? There are three basic ways we learn habits; emotions, authority figures, and repetition.
Let’s use an example.
We need a person to use for our example. Let’s use you, when you were 10 to 14 years old. For the sake of discussion, let’s use the smoking habit. Ok?
So when you were around that age I think we can safely assume you were learning about life and how you fit into it. If you were like most kids, you weren’t as confident about yourself as you would be later in life.
Kids that age sometimes feel self-conscious, dependent on others, powerless, not good enough, or??. We’ll call this feeling “bad”. This is not saying you felt miserable, but maybe didn’t feel “good” as you thought you should feel? Did you feel as “good” as you thought other people felt?
Maybe, maybe not. If you sometimes felt “bad” you probably wanted to feel better, you wanted to feel “good”. What your mind would see as an answer to this problem would depend upon your experiences and life lessons up to that point. Right?
How does a person learn things like that? Emotions, authority figures and repetition. You probably saw authority figures smoking - parents, family, friends, role models, and of course, advertisements. Smoking is perceived as tough, strong, independent, self-assured, and unique. All the “good” feelings you were feeling a lack of.
This would create a desire (craving) in you to do this thing. A belief that smoking is what your life is missing. And not just in a “knowing” way, but a “feeling” way as well, which is much more powerful.
Then you tried your first cigarette, and chances are that you weren’t so good at smoking. That would come with practice.
Life goes on and you continue practicing your smoking habit. Reinforcing the existing cravings and creating new ones. Like branches on the tree of the first craving.
A lot of people working to quit smoking have thought of these things. A lot have not. But, all of the people that have tried to quit smoking have used a lot of time thinking and analyzing their habit. Trying to argue themselves into quitting. But, you didn’t learn this habit by thinking and analyzing. Why would trying to quit smoking that way work?
It is a lot easier to quit smoking with the same methods you started smoking with. A “hypnotized” state of mind combined with emotions, authority figures and repetition. Often called modern hypnosis.

Oregon Health Update
Oregon is popular for many reasons such as coffee, beautiful scenery, fresh salmon and of course Tillamook cheese! However, lately Oregon has taken center stage for promoting healthy lifestyles. Portland was ranked #2 in 2006 by Self Magazine on their “Top 10 healthiest cities for women” article. In 2004 Portland was nick named “Bike Town U.S.A.” by Bike Town Magazine and it was also ranked #3 for healthiest city for pets by showcatsonline.com in 2003. Across the board, Oregon is setting a national standard for healthy living and exercise.
In almost every city in Oregon there are weight loss programs, healthy choices at restaurants, healthy food at schools, exercise groups and gyms where Oregonians have the option to make better choices.
In Salem alone there are five Weight Watcher sites, a Jenny Craig and a LA Weight loss center all centrally located, not to mention all the other private organizations such as Salem Weight Management Center. If you do not want to count points, buy special food or be on a liquid diet there are plenty of healthy options at grocery stores and Salem’s exclusive health foods store, Life Source. As recently as ten years ago, many of Salem’s grocery stores did not carry foods such as soy milk, tofu or whole wheat products without a high price tag. Now, places like Fred Meyer often have sales on these products and offer a wide range of health foods and Trans fat free products.
Not only in Oregon but nationwide restaurants are offering alternatives to high calorie menu items. Applebee’s was one of the firsts to offer Weight Watcher menu items and Red Robin offers meat substitutes for all their burgers. Often dieters avoid eating out because typically there are few healthy choices besides a salad on menus. But now with these special menus, dieters can feel confident eating out instead of feeling chained to their ovens and health food recipe book.
If a healthy lifestyle is something you desire but don’t think you can do on your own, help is on every corner, literally. In Salem alone there are five Weight Watcher sites, a Jenny Craig and a LA Weight loss center all within a five mile radius. This is not including all the private organizations such as Salem Weight Management Center. All of these companies have one thing in common, they all want to build a better, healthier, and happier you.
All of these healthy options put Oregon in the top 10 in 2007 for the “fittest cities” article in Men’s Magazine, where Portland ranked number 9 which was up from 17 the previous year. Oregon’s healthy lifestyle trend is not likely to change anytime soon. With all the options available to you and the beckoning scenery, many people have a hard time silencing the quiet voice in their head telling them to eat better or get more exercise. If you can’t beat them, join them!

Stress is Sort of Funny
Stress is a funny thing. Stress can motivate you to achieve more than you believed possible. Stress can also ruin your health and sometimes even your life.
How stress affects you Depends on your quantity of stress and what kinds of stress you have. It can also depend on what kinds of stress you’ve had in your past and how you learned to deal with it.
The physical signs of stress are meant to help you physically survive - fight or flight. In today’s world, this is only rarely helpful, since most stress today is mental.
Mental stress will come from issues such as concern about money, relationships, and your health. Your body’s physical reaction to stress does not help these situations. Since these situations are common and long-lasting, your body can potentially be in a constant state of stress.
This is what causes stress related health problems as varied as headaches, insomnia, trouble thinking clearly, depression and digestion problems. Health problems from stress eventually just increases the stress you already have.
Common sense tells you that managing your stress is important. There are all kinds of people and companies that will offer advice, products and services to help your stress. If every option worked the same for everyone, that would not be a problem. But, we’re all different. What works for your friend, may not work for you.
Finding the right choice for yourself is easier when you are more aware of what causes your stress and how you experience it.
It helps to decide if your stress is from situations or behaviors - Is your stress in proportion to the current situations or does it feel blown out of proportion? It may not be easy to figure this part out on your own.
Situational stress is generally easier to figure out, and since it’s about a situation, it is generally more short-term. What common stress management methods will work for you? Is it realistic to expect yourself to get some form of exercise and a proper diet? (I know from personal experience, if I have high stress it is when my life is too busy to work-out or get to the grocery store for planned meals)
If your stress is behavioral, spending some time analyzing the triggers may help. Look at your past and see if it is making your stress higher than it should be. Stressful memories of the past can and do effect us every day.
Look into your options and find what fits for you. Then, make use of them. When it comes to improving your life, the only poor choice is to not make a choice.
