Recognized Poodle Breeders
If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!
Good Poodle breeders are generally affiliated to well-known clubs like a kennel club or the Poodle club. The objective of these clubs is to promote all dog-breeds. If you approach a Poodle breeder who is affiliated to such a club, he will take care of every detail, when you are interested in buying a dog.
Such lists of breeders are available online, or contacts can be had from the local vet or even a kennel club, if you know of one near you. The Poodle is an intelligent, elegant and an active animal. It requires a lot of care at home, and if you approach a breeder, he interviews you to check out the home that the pet is going to.
You are asked questions on how and where you live, whether you have other pets and how you will be looking after the dog. Only if he is satisfied, he will hand over his pet to you. If you buy your Poodle from a pet shop, there is no interaction with the breeder at all. Most the time they can hardly give you any advice regarding the dog as well.
Hence a pet shop is the place to avoid, when you are looking for a pet Poodle. The source of puppies at the pet shop can be puppy mills or backyard breeders. A Poodle from a backyard breeder may be priced low, but there is no information about it, or any queries that the dog-owner has. The dog’s health and temperament, it s breeding history and general information about the Poodle is not available with such breeders.
The home of the breeder should be clean and hygienic, because that is from where you are taking your pet home. The dog’s surroundings also reflect the quality of the breeder. If he is a conscientious breeder, he is looking towards improving the quality of the dogs, not just looking at the financial gain. He studies the background of the bloodlines in the Poodle’s pedigree. In this way he is aiming at the prevention of genetic diseases and genetic disorders.
Just choose your puppy from responsible Poodle breeders, though a puppy from an ethical and reputable breeder will naturally cost more than a puppy in a pet shop. However there are many factors, which can be the cause of the higher price. It is the accumulated information, education and experience of the reputable breeders, which hikes up the price.
Often secondhand puppies are sold in pet stores and brokers bring them to the shops. The brokers bring them from puppy mills at a very young age. In fact they are too young at that time to stay away from their mothers. The pups are a danger to all, because they are not protected against any canine diseases like parvo or distemper. The pups look very sorry and sick, and people just buy them because they feel sorry for them. This sort of dog breeding and dog trading is incorrect and should not be encouraged in any way.
Therefore, do not buy your Poodle puppy from a pet shop. The puppies are generally brought from puppy mills, where the Poodles are bred, just to be sold and for business purposes. There is no concern about the quality of breeding, so their genetic health and temperament are not a matter of interest at all.

Dog Food
PETALUMA, California (AP) - Gus the dog has three legs, one eye and no hair, except for a white tuft on the top of his head. He’s a real winner.
The “dog days” of summer can be dangerous for dogs - especially those dogs left inside hot cars. Every year, countless dogs die after being locked in cars while their guardians work, visit, shop, or run other errands. These tragic deaths are entirely preventable.
Through this website, you’ll learn about what you can do to protect dogs from the dangers of hot cars. You can find out how quickly cars heat up in warm weather, whether it’s too hot to take your dog along today, and how to get the word out that it’s just not cool to leave a dog in a hot car, even for “just a minute.”
More households include dogs than children. And so the editors of The Bark, a magazine that began as a newsletter advocating a legal off-leash area for dogs to play, had no trouble finding enough writers and material for a book of essays, short stories and commentaries on all aspects of humans and their dogs.
Pet stores are occasionally sued by customers or fined for selling unhealthy dogs. For example, a few years back Pet Depot agreed to pay New Jersey $7,500 in penalties and costs for selling dogs it knew were unfit for sale (among other violations).
Dog agility is a dog sport in which a handler directs a dog through an obstacle course in a race for both time and accuracy. Dogs generally run off-leash with no food or toys as incentives. The handler can touch neither dog nor obstacles, except accidentally. Consequently, the handler’s controls are limited to voice, movement, and various body signals, requiring exceptional training of the animal.
“A hot oven or a hot car it’s the same thing.” A visit to this website prompted student Simon Majarian to create this poster for his class project. Now you can download it for free, to print out and hang up to remind others not to leave their dogs in parked cars.
Courses are complicated enough that a dog could not complete them correctly without human direction. In competition, the handler must assess the course, decide on handling strategies, and direct the dog through the course, with precision and speed equally important. Many strategies exist to compensate for the inherent difference in human and dog speeds and the strengths and weaknesses of the various dogs and handlers.
OK - there’s no such thing as “The Nazis,” either. Some Nazis shot Jews in the head with apparent unconcern, others felt quite anxious and guilty doing it, and still others managed to get themselves confined to clerical work. You can’t generalize about the Nazis, because each one was an individual who acted and felt differently.
In Rochester New York, hot dogs are known as “hots” and come in either red or white. Most hots are found on another Rochester classic, the garbage plate?an amalgam of hots (or burgers, sausage, whatever you please), potato salad, home fries, meat sauce, among others. White hots are normally made of a mixture of uncured pork, veal, and beef, while red hots can be made with pork, beef, or both. Zweigle’s is best known in Rochester as the first to introduce the white hots in 1925 and makes both natural casing and skinless varieties.

Chihuahua Health Problems To Know About
Deciding on a Chihuahua as your family pet is a great move and one of the first things you are going to want to do is familiarize yourself with Chihuahua health problems so that you know what to look for and you know what is healthy behavior and what is unhealthy behavior for your Chihuahua. It takes time to get to understand what they mean with their body language and when they are showing symptoms of something serious, so get to know these symptoms so you can identify them if they come up.
You are going to want to have a long talk with your vet about what to look for in your Chihuahua before you bring the little dog home so that your vet can take you through normal Chihuahua behavior and what to look for if something is wrong. Not only can your vet help you, but also your breeder can also be a vast fountain of knowledge on the care of your Chihuahua and will probably give you information to take home.
Many Chihuahua health problems are part of the breed’s character and are usually present at birth. Some of the problems develop over time but you should be able to identify the serious conditions right away. One common Chihuahua health problem is a floating kneecap. Sometimes their legs do not develop properly and the material that is supposed to hold the kneecap in place is weak and causes the kneecap to float in and out of place. This is very painful and needs medical attention right away.
When male Chihuahua pups are born their testicles are up in their abdomen. Almost right after birth a healthy male Chihuahua will have its testicles drop from the abdomen and if it doesn’t happen at birth then it needs to happen by the time they reach adulthood. If you notice that this trait is lacking in your Chihuahua then you will want to get them to the vet right away, as this is the sign of a very serious health issue that your vet will want to take care of as soon as possible.
Chihuahua health problems can be quite serious but sometimes difficult to detect. One problem that is almost exclusive to the Chihuahua is very difficult to see in the beginning stages and get quite serious if untreated.
Your vet can usually detect this in a regular appointment but it is conditions like this that make monitoring your Chihuahua’s health so important.
A Chihuahua is like any other toy breed of dog in that it can sometimes develop crystal in their urine that can block up their system and cause major problems. Some conditions are exclusive to a Chihuahua and won’t show up in any other breed.
So keep an eye on your Chihuahua and make sure you take them to the vet on a regular basis.

White Fur Stains Are A Thing Of The Past With Tear Stain Remover
Whether you are a show dog breeder or just the proud owner of a fine looking dog, you will want to keep your dog in tip top condition, including avoiding white fur stains.
We have all seen dog with tear stains, but thankfully those tears are not ones of sadness!
Vets cite several plausible explanations for over-tearfulness in dogs.
A simple bacterial infection could be behind excessive tear production. This can be followed by a yeast infection which causes dark red marks on the dog’s “cheeks”.
Other explanations include blocked tear ducts, ear infections, genetics, allergies, a high mineral content in the water, diet and fleas.
Changing your dog’s diet may solve the issue if food is the culprit. A water test can be done just by substituting normal water for filtered water and seeing whether there is an effect.
Obviously sometimes it’s not a big enough deal to warrant thorough investigation, and all you need is something just to do a quick wash and brush up.
This is especially true for show dogs with pale faces.
Don’t just go for human soap to clean your dog’s face. If you must use a detergent use a dog shampoo and don’t get it into the eyes; you will still need to wash it off.
Sometimes water is not readily available so you need a better solution.
That solution could come in the form of Eyewipes from ClearQuest, for cat and dog usage. Made for use around the eye area but of course not in the eye itself.
So practical, so clean and so quick for cleaning up dirt and debris from that area.
The benefits are multifold - cleaning the area will remove any stains for shows, it will reduce the chance of eye infection or could be used to clear debris away from the eye, and it’s a handy product to keep in your pack while hiking with your dog.
No rinsing required.
With 100 wipes to a packet, they are great value and contain the ingredients: Deionized Water UV Sterilized, Cocamido Propyl Betaine, Propyl Paraben, Methyl Paraben and Boric Acid.
Be careful of course not to touch the actual eyeball with the wipe as this could irritate.
Vitacoat Diamond Eye Tear Stain Remover is gold in the eyes of dog showers.
With a 40 year history, this product has been used to clean off stubborn stains in anticipation for the show ring. It is safe and effective and can be applied by soaking a cotton ball and gently cleaning the fur.
All you need to do is soak a swab and use it to gently rub the fur. A quick solution for you dog to look his best.

Labrador Nutrition: The Best Diet To Feed Your Labrador
When it comes to Labrador nutrition, there is nothing that is more important than taking the time to choose the best diet for the dog. The food that they eat is going to affect their health more than anything else, and it is vital that they are getting the proper nutrition from their food. Choosing dog food is a much more serious task than most owners seem to realize. Every food on the market contains different ingredients and has the potential to either provide health to your dog or cause them allergies or other problems.
Remember that each dog food on the market contains different ingredients and offers a different potential towards the nutrition of your dog. Every food also contains a different ratio of macronutrients, protein, fat and carbohydrates and so you will have to learn by trial and error more than anything to find out which works best for your dog. There is also the issue of allergies, and dogs, just like people, are individuals and will respond differently to different foods.
If you are concerned about Labrador nutrition and want to find the best food for your dog, the first and most important thing you can do is read the list of ingredients on the label. You want to make sure that there is real meat listed as one of the first ingredients, such as chicken or beef. Watch for fillers like bones and feet, because these are just used to make the dog feel full and will not be providing them with any real nutrition.
You want to review the first couple of ingredients listed in particular, because it will be these few ingredients that the dog food will be primarily made out of.
There are also a few extras that you will want to look for when choosing a dog food, and for one you should try to choose a food that has a balanced Omega 3/6 ratio, a few examples of great Omega 3 sources being salmon oil, flax oil, and canola oil.
Selecting a dog food for your dog is definitely the most important step in providing proper Labrador nutrition, but not the only one. There are also other issues that should be considered on this topic, one in particular involving supplements. There are varying opinions on supplements and on whether they should be given to dogs or not.
If your dog has dry skin or thinning fur however, then supplements may be a great idea, and will help with their health problems. Some owners also think that growing puppies require extra calcium and there is the option of adding it into their food in the form of bone meal.
You really need to be careful if you decide to do this however, because it can actually do your dog more harm than good if you go overboard with it. Calcium must be in balanced with phosphorus and magnesium in the diet and an overabundance of calcium can cause serious health problems so ensure that you are giving the right amount.

German Shepherd Health Problems To Be Aware Of
Any breed of dog is going to have its share of health problems and a German Shepherd is no different. Before you bring your new German Shepherd pup home you should discuss potential German Shepherd health problems with your vet and your breeder so that you know what symptoms to look for. You also need to know when certain behaviors are normal for a German Shepherd and when other behaviors may mean it is time to get emergency care for your German Shepherd.
German Shepherds can get quite large and one of the types of diseases they are very open to are skeletal conditions that result in a displaced hip or elbow joint for what appears to be no reason at all. These conditions develop over time and can make any movement for your dog extremely painful. So if you notice your dog having difficulty moving around or favoring one leg or the other then you may want to get them to a vet right away.
There is nothing more terrifying than watching your pet having a seizure but sometimes it happens and when it does you need to be there for your pet and make sure they get through it okay. Another common German Shepherd health problem is epilepsy and it can lead to seizures and convulsions and potentially death if not treated. Luckily you and your vet should be able to come up with a plan that includes diet changes and medication that can help to deal with this terrible condition.
Your German Shepherd can also develop eye problems. Sometimes they can get cataracts, which are easily removed with surgery just like with humans. In other cases the eyelids may not develop properly or eyelashes may start growing too close to the eyes and this can cause an irritation and infection in the eye. These conditions are all fixed with surgery. So if you notice your German Shepherd having difficulty seeing where it is going contact your vet immediately.
In some cases there are dog breeds that can develop the blood condition known as Von Willebrand’s Disease or VWD. VWD is like hemophilia in humans, in that the dog’s blood does not clot as it should and the dog will bleed profusely even with the smallest injury.
It is similar to the human condition of hemophilia. In some cases you may notice bleeding from the gums or nose bleeds for no apparent reason. If you notice these symptoms get your dog to the vet right away.
Any pet is going to have its share of health problems and it is up to you as a responsible owner to make sure that you keep in constant contact with your vet and your breeder so that you know what some of the symptoms are of the more common German Shepherd health problems and you can make sure your pet gets the care it needs when it needs it.
You can help your dog stay healthy and know when it is time to get your dog to the vet for a check up or emergency care.

Dog Separation Anxiety
Contrary to popular belief, our family pets can suffer from anxiety just as much as their human counterparts. Anxiety is a response to stress and nothing can bring out anxiety in a dog as much as separation from an owner. Needless to say, a great deal of panic can set in with a family dog that seriously misses it owner. Also, the separation does not even have to be very long in duration. Some dogs may fly into separation anxiety panic simply waiting for an owner to return home from work. This can lead to the dog causing serious damage in the home. Obviously, this would not be a good situation. So, it would be wise to take a few dog house training steps to reduce the onset of separation anxiety.
Bach flower essences have been safely used by both people and animals in order to calm their nerves and bring a sense of general well-being. For this reason, it is very effective in the treatment of dog separation anxiety. The bach flower essences are heavily diluted and can be combined with many other ingredients in order to create numerous combinations for a variety of medical concerns. In fact, there are 38 different combinations that are effective in treating different ailments. Bach flower essences can be found in many health food stores and are widely available on the Internet.
Boredom combined with excess energy can also expedite separation anxiety. Exercising your dog regularly can circumvent this. If the dog receives a decent amount of regular exercise then the dog will not bristle with energy that might manifest during a separation period. The huge benefit to this is that the dog will not exhibit any potentially destructive behavior. However, it is also wise to secure the dog in an area where it can not do any damage. Rather than having the dog destroying the living room of a home, placing it in the basement is a wiser option. Or, if you lack such a room placing the dog in a decent sized crate/cage will work. Also, leaving the radio on while the dog is alone in the room might aid in making the dog feel less lonely.
Finally, if you need a little help with your separation anxiety related dog house training there are a number of excellent dog sitting/walking services that can help. Many times, a qualified “dog care professional” and swing by and check on your dog and keep him company for a half hour for less than $20. This can work wonders in making your dog’s time alone more comfortable and less stressful.
Kava kava has also been used by many people in the treatment of dog separation anxiety. It is safe for use in humans, but there are not enough studies to indicate whether or not kava kava is safe for use in dogs. For this reason, proceed with caution if you do decide to use kava kava treatments for dog separation anxiety.

Senior Golden Retrievers for Adoption
If you would really love to own a Golden Retriever but are hesitant about taking on a puppy, then adopting an older Golden may be the answer. These lovely dogs when they are mature settle in very easily to a new home and they do not need nearly as much attention as a puppy as they like to have some time to themselves. Regardless of their age you will find that your new friend very quickly becomes a welcome member of the family.
Many times, breeders will have older dogs for sale. There are several reasons for this, which include show dogs that have lost their potential, studs that have been used for breeding, female Golden’s that have been bred a few times then retired, or other types of special conditions where a breeder is helping a friend get rid of his Golden Retriever. There are other reasons as well, although whatever they may be - the adult Golden Retriever will be available for anyone who wants him.
Most older Golden Retrievers are already housebroken, and know a lot of behavior patterns and how to adapt to a new and loving family. Although it will be a little hard on your new dog at first, if you give him plenty of love, attention, and patience, he’ll be just fine. You need to keep reassuring your new Golden on a regular basis, and let him know that you are his new owner and that you love him and you are glad he’s a member of your family.
Before actually making that decision to adopt a Golden,do give the matter some careful thought. Meet the dog first, and find out as much as you can about him or her. Find out their eating habits, and whether or not they get on with children, and old people, and do they enjoy going for walks in the country or in the town and so on. Ask if you can take them out for a walk, and make sure that you introduce him to the other members of your family, so that they too are happy about the decision.
If you had a guest staying with you in your home you would of course take some time to show them where everything is, where the bedroom is and the bathroom and so on, and it is just them same when you introduce an older dog into your family. Allow some time in your busy schedule to ease them in to your home and routine, and this will pay dividends in the long run.
Its not a bad idea, once your dog has had a month or so to settle in, to take them to an obedience training class somewhere. In your initial meeting with the person who is handing over the dog to you they may well tell you that they have been to training classes in the past. But the thing is that you have not been to the classes with your dog, and this makes a big difference. Do enrol in a class somewhere near to your home, and together you will learn a lot about each other and how to harmoniously get on together.
So, let me encourage you to seriously consider giving a home to an older Golden Retriever. If you don’t think that you have either the time, or indeed the patience to take on a new puppy, then a more mature dog may well be the answer. They may well have more medical problems than a puppy, and this is something you will need to enquire about first, but I believe that any downside is more than compensated for by the benefits of owning a mature Golden.

How To Care For A Puppy - 5 Important Things To Think About
Raising a healthy dog begins with caring for him correctly from the time you bring him home. Below are 5 tips on how to care for a puppy that will keep him healthy and comfortable.
1. Comfort
One of the many things that you must do for your puppy is to make him comfortable. You should definitely have a doggy bed and a set place for your puppy to sleep. Also, it is good to have plenty of toys, food, and water dishes.
Besides that, you should make sure you leave plenty of time to spend with your puppy in order for him to know you and feel safe and secure when around you. Make sure he knows that you are there to take care of him. Don’t forget that your puppy has just been stripped of his mother and siblings and the only home that he has ever had. In order to feel safe he is going to need a little reaffirmation.
2. Give Your Puppy The Right Food
A proper diet is very important in your new puppy’s health. Start off with the food he was eating before he became your new pet, as their digestive system is a little touchy at this age. To change his diet, gradually substitute some new food into his regular food until you are eventualy feeding him the food of your choice.
When he comes home, your puppy may want to eat your table scraps, but you should introduce these foods slowly. His stomach will need to adjust before it can handle a lot of “people” food.
3. Veterinarian
Responsible ownership of a puppy includes seeking regular veterinary care. Necessary treatments include worming and vaccinations to protect the puppy. To ensure that your young dog receives the best possible care, schedule an appointment as soon as possible, and establish a regular vaccination and examination schedule as recommended by your veterinarian. Getting the proper vaccinations and checkups is an important part of learning how to care for a puppy.
4. Puppy-Proof Your Home
Puppies have a lot of energy and like to explore. You’ll need to take some steps to keep him safe. Look around and see what areas might be dangerous for him; you’ll want to keep him away from these places. If there are other pets in your home, you’ll want to supervise their interactions to make sure things don’t get too rough for your new puppy. If there are children in your home, make sure they understand the new puppy isn’t a toy and teach them how to treat him gently.
5. Training
A dog that isn’t properly trained can be a nuisance who no one wants to be around. If you don’t want your puppy to grow into a nuisance dog, then you need to have a plan for obedience training. Not only will this make him a dog everyone wants to hang out with, it will help you to keep him safe.
Learning how to care for a puppy takes a bit of planning, but mostly you should plant to give your new pup a lot of love and attention - those two things are most important for helping your puppy grow into a happy and healthy dog.
