When Break Ups Happen Divorce Paves the Final Step
If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!
As the rate of divorce seems to rise, people seem to still be surprised when it happens to them. Financial, emotional, and personal lives are splintered, and torn to pieces. If you don’t know someone who has been through a divorce, this article will help you learn about what to avoid and look for when a divorce is inevitable for your future.
The Stop at the Lawyers
When you split up a family you are also going to split up everything from the money, to everything in the house. Mental, emotional and financial strains are difficult. Most often times, people who are breaking up do not feel very giving towards the other person with all the belongings. The husband and wife going through the divorce often times focus on who is getting what, and what they don’t want the other person to have in the end.
While looking at the things you have, the money you have, you must also look at the debts and the loans or the credit cards that are in your name. Don’t focus just on what you have, but also on what you don’t have when splitting everything up in the end of a marriage.
Finding answers, using mediation
Lawyers are going to be costly during a breakup. When possible, think about using a mediator, the process of mediation to put things behind you when going through a divorce. Both the husband and wife are going to have to make a few concessions in both assets and in debts, but the end result is going to be a much faster process. Mediation is most often times going to be less costly than two lawyer bills are going to be.
Avoid getting trapped and paying more than you should. When possible, if you have real estate you want to sell it off so you can get cash from the deals. When possible, and you have shared assets such as stocks as a joint account you may want to consider signing off on portions of the stocks in return for other portions of the stocks. This is going to prevent either of you from having to pay heavy fees and cash in taxes when you don’t really have too. When too people are getting a divorce, sometimes the best thing you can possibly do is act like adults and use a third party to save money in many ways.
What financial matters you should think about
Besides the house, and the things you own physically you also have a few other topics you may want to remember to think about. These things include items such as your joint checking, joint savings, joint credit cards, and other valuables such as insurance policies and disability policies. While you may not want to believe it, some joint accounts hold both parties responsible even if divorced. If one husband or one wife were to rack up the credit cards, the other could be held responsible because it is a joint account and for the monies that are outstanding.
One last thing you should think about when breaking a couple up and heading for divorce. Alimony is often a factor when large sums of money are in question, or if one spouse was the bread winner and the other spouse wasn’t working. In some areas of the country it is difficult to get alimony while it doesn’t mean that it is impossible.
What is divorce going to mean for you
Changes are going to have to be made, which is going to mean rebuilding your finances, your home life, and your family. You may need a smaller house, or you may need to live in a different neighborhood as part of the best rebuilding and consolidation plan. All the expenses of a house will become your own, and all the expenses of your children if you have any will also need to be addressed.

Borrowing Can be a Wise Leverage Move
Leverage (debt) has now become a constant in our society, to the point that the goal for most families is no longer to be debt free, but simply to manage their debt as well as they can, without reaching the breaking point. It’s not just families that take this approach though, but companies and even governments as well.
Our society is all but structured so that anyone who wants even a decent standard of living through attending college or university, owning a home and/or small business, etc. has to take on debt, save for the super rich parents who can pay for these endeavors for their children with cold hard cash. The truth though is that even the so called super rich are often in debt themselves. They have massive incomes, but also massive spending.
Managing Debt is indeed a double-edged sword, one that needs to be constantly sharpened and then carefully sheathed. In this debt-filled world, some of these strategies may help you live and even thrive while being in the red.
Home ownership
Not a traditionally considered for of leverage, but homes should be considered just that. Like any other investment, a home can rise and fall with the times, which can bring substantial volatility to your overall net worth. While home values have generally trended upwards with time, there have been points where the market has seen downturns, and the current period threatens to do so as well. A 5% realized loss on the value of your home could result in a loss anywhere from 25-100% of your equity.
Investing
The most common form of leverage is through investing, primarily in margin accounts and futures. This type of investing can lead to both great returns and abject failure. The volatility of the market is much greater than the housing market, and even slight changes that may be seemingly nothing more than random blips could cost investors thousands from their margin accounts.
Lifestyle
This is the worst form of leverage, with no potential payoff down the line. This isn’t so much leverage in the traditional sense, but through the act of consuming goods or services now, one inhibits their ability to do so in the future.
Borrowing money for something like schooling on the other hand would be considered a wise lifestyle leverage decision. While schooling gives you no guaranteed return, it will almost certainly lead to greater wages down the line, and most likely make up for the initial loan within just a few years.
Using leverage
In our debt laden society, it can be nice to know that debt can sometimes work for us and not against us. Most forms of leverage have risks involved though, and these should necessitate you asking yourself some important questions.
With a tolerable risk profile check you 3 in 1 credit report for more info, you should be able to take on leverage positively and hopefully take advantage of it. That debt may even one day get you out of debt.

Suggestions on Homeschooling
Now that you have decided that homeschooling is the way to educate your child, get ready for the ecstasy and the anxiety - the road ahead is a bit bumpy, but the rewards more than make up for it. Producing a well-adjusted and well-rounded personality is no mean achievement.
First of all, it is important to check out your state laws on home schooling. Some states need an affidavit filed with the State’s education department. There are basically 3 categories for homeschooling laws. These are: private school laws, home education laws and equivalency laws. Find your state laws. You may also need to maintain a portfolio that records the child’s educational progress. It is important to look into the legal requirements BEFORE you start homeschooling. Some States also stipulate a minimum educational qualification for the parent or teacher.
Next, look for a support group. If you live in a friendly or curious neighborhood, well-meaning friends will try to dissuade you. At the very least, they may put a lot of uneasy questions in your mind. A support group that consists of like-minded people will insulate you from the criticism, pressures and questions of regular school-goers. Many groups organize fun events like visits to the zoo, museum, tours to the ice cream shops etc. And if your children hit it off with other homeschoolers, they will be able to build lasting relationships that do not fade when their friends change schools. These groups provide an important avenue for socialization.
The next important thing to do is to select a curriculum. Depending upon the method of homeschooling, you may choose various tools that aid you in this process. The internet is also a rich resource for homeschooling. Do some research and look into the material that is available.
Set certain ground rules. Homeschooling requires a lot of self-discipline and hard work. Here is a comprehensive list of the things you will need: 1) Eagerness to learn 2) Hard work and effort 3) Discipline 4) Time and patience 5) Flexibility 6) Enthusiasm
Consider why you want to opt for homeschooling. Your motives and your reasons are important pillars on which the whole edifice of your child’s lessons depends. Also, consult with your children. Ask them what they feel about homeschooling.
Select a curriculum or custom-make a curriculum that best suits your child. Record keeping is an important part of homeschooling. Look into the various methods of record keeping. Set up a schedule. Your child does not have to learn 6-7 hours a day. Allow him or her to dictate the time. Flexibility and fun are the cornerstones of homeschooling. Do not stuff too many skills into a single term or year. Prepare a skill list. Make the child learn the skills that he is ready for.
Gentle parenting is the secret to successful homeschooling. Children make great advances in learning and show more enthusiasm. They also turn out to be surprisingly well balanced and well informed when they are taught at home.

Prenatal Vitamins…DO You Really Need Them?
Prenatal vitamins are a hot topic among many women these days and many of them are talking about the benefits of using them before getting pregnant. The reasoning is that prenatal vitamins may help prevent some birth defects. Prenatal vitamins, in my opinion, should probably become part of the diet plan for expecting mothers. Pregnancy greatly increases the need for some nutrients and it can be hard to meet these needs through diet alone. Iron and folic acid are two such nutrients. Pregnancy is a time when both mother and baby are growing quickly. This rapid growth increases the demand for all nutrients, and the development of the baby and placenta are directly influenced by the mother’s nutritional status. Doctors will often prescribe a prenatal vitamin to a pregnant patient, but some evidence suggests that vitamins are beneficial for women who are planning to conceive. The consistent use of prenatal vitamins during pregnancy and breastfeeding is advisable to reduce or avert the chances of nutrition deficiencies.
The majority of prenatal vitamins on the market are designed to compensate for nutritional shortcomings. They generally contain supplements like folic acid, iron, zinc, calcium etc. These nutrients go a long way in preventing defects such as the risk of serious defects of the brain and spinal cord. Yet these supplements need to be combined with a good overall diet.
IMPORTANT NUTRIENTS FOR MOTHER AND CHILD:
DHA
DHA is a fatty acid and is necessary for a baby’s brain development. It is needed by the child from the very earliest stages of pregnancy throughout the time of breastfeeding. DHA belongs to the omega -3 family of fatty acids and is essential, especially in pregnancy.
IRON
Iron is an important mineral, and most prenatal will have 30 to 40 mg. If a woman is anemic, she should talk to her health care provider about whether she will need more. Additionally, a natural practioner may recommend a different type of iron supplement. During the third trimester of pregnancy, the baby will use a tremendous amount of iron, which comes from the mother’s stored levels.
FOLIC ACID
Folic Acid is very essential for a healthy pregnancy and healthy fetal development. It has been shown to decrease the risk of birth defects like spine bifida or other neural tube defects. Folic acid is naturally found in dark, leafy vegetables, citrus fruits, dried beans, and whole grain breads and cereals. Most cereals are also fortified with many other vitamins and can be a good dietary choice for the pregnant woman who cannot tolerate vitamins. Folic acid is an essential nutrient that can help prevent birth defects in newborns.
Folic acid has been proven essential to a baby’s neural tube development during the first three months of a woman’s pregnancy. This is the time when the mother is most likely to experience nausea and vomiting. Folic acid is regarded as so important that it is often recommended that women start taking folate, 30 days or more prior to attempting to conceive.
CALCIUM
Calcium is extremely important as well as essential to both the mother and child in pregnancy. Calcium and magnesium help protect the mother’s bones during this time when the demands of both her body as well as the baby’s body for these nutrients must be met. A good prenatal vitamin will contain calcium, but the mother must also eat a well balanced diet to obtain calcium as well.
Not all prenatal vitamins are of the same quality of course. They all tend to have all of the basic nutrients in them that are necessary at such a crucial time for a woman’s body. However, the best prenatal will provide what mother and child needs, at just the right amounts, as well as avoiding amounts that tend to toxicity.

Home Owners Need to Plan Renovations Carefully
The only constant in life is change. Everything needs change at times, even your home sweet home. Is it time to make some changes in your living space? Here are some points to consider when devising what your home needs.
Some owners need to make changes to their homes to make it more comfortable. Is your place hot or cold enough? Is there enough storage space? Do you live in an older home and things are just due to be fixed or replaced? Or are you planning to sell your home and want renovations to improve the home’s value?
Others need to change in order to accommodate more or fewer residents. Are there children coming into your life? Or are they leaving the nest? Are elderly or disabled relatives coming to stay with you? Do you have guests now and then and need space for them?
Fortunately, most of these circumstances can be met by simply renovating your existing home rather than selling it. It’s amazing what a few changes can do to give your place a whole new look. Try improving the lighting or removing a wall to make a larger gathering area. Improving the electrical or plumbing systems can make all the difference in your family’s comfort. Even a fresh coat of paint can give a room new life and even make a room feel larger or smaller.
Two common areas for renovation are the kitchen and the bathroom. Cabinets may need to be replaced. The plumbing may need to be fixed or there may not be enough storage. It may be time to replace the refrigerator or the tub. Countertops may be scratched and warped. Consider granite countertops if yours are in need of replacement. If you have the space, would adding another bathroom or installing a second oven help your family’s circumstances? Larger families or those with frequent guests love the convenience of a second set of appliances.
Another popular project is to install a new deck or patio. With today’s focus on the environment, people crave an extra outdoor “room”. The deck or patio can take care of your space needs, especially if you make it a three-season enclosed structure. You’ll be surprised at how often it is used.
When considering home improvement ideas, remember you don’t have to do them all at once. Plan and complete one task first before going on to the next. The other projects will still be there when you’re done.
It’s fun to dream about ways to improve your home. That’s why home improvement magazines and television shows are so popular. Check out a few of them and find some ideas for yourself. Then carefully plan out whether it is doable, both in terms of time and money. If you do, why not take the plunge? Not only will you solve your housing problem but you’ll also improve the value of your home.

Using And Storing Aromatic Herbs
Not only are herbs used for seasoning in food items, they are also used for medicinal purposes. They are also great for providing wonderful smells in your garden or home and for aromatherapy. The oils contained in the leaves of many of the aromatic herbs used for cooking are what makes them so useful. The oil is also what gives the herbs a pleasurable scent. Even if you wouldn’t eat an herb, they make a delight for the senses.
Lavender is familiar to almost everyone. It has a great scent and dries nicely, making it perfect for sachets. With its delicate plum-colored flowers, this aromatic herb (with origins in the Mediterranean) attracts Black Swallowtail butterflies and makes a great addition to any garden — as a border or planted throughout.
Sage, another aromatic member of the mint family, has been enjoyed for many years. It originally grew in Asia Minor, but can now be found growing in every corner of the world. It is an olfactory delight for anyone who rubs its leaves between their fingers.
Caraway-Scented Thyme is a member of the mint family. It blooms in early summer with beautiful pink blossoms. This small bush attracts butterflies and bees with its bright blossoms and spicy aroma. It makes a wonderful addition to any garden.
Sweet Marjoram is a member of the mint family and this aromatic herb has been very popular for years. Do not confuse it with its close relative, Origanum Vulgare which is Oregano. Sweet Marjoram has a slight spicy odor making it a perfect compliment in perfumed soaps and potpourri bowls.
It is easy to keep them preserved. Keep fresh stems in jars of cool water in the fridge, they will last for a week or so. Otherwise, store them in oil. Wash them and let them dry for an hour, then place them in a jar with preserving oil. They will stay fresh that way for two to three months.
If you want to store them for longer, it is a good option to keep them in the freezer. After washing, remove the water and then store in a plastic bag in the freezer. Another way is to chop them and keep the pieces in the ice cube tray. Unexposed to air they will retain the freshness for more than 4 months. For longer storage keep them in a jar of vinegar after cleaning and drying.
Herbs must be dried to be used in potpourri. Oils in the herbs are what provide the aromatherapy benefits. So when you hang your herbs in a cool, dry place to dry; do not leave the plants exposed to air for extended periods. This will cause all of the precious oils to evaporate and lose their fragrance.
Though that is ideal for a potpouri jar or satchet bag, in order to extend the life of the herbs other methods are necessary. One way to accomplish this is to use an airtight bag. These bags prohibit oil from escaping the plants and prolong their life.
Many common aromatic herbs respond well to the drying process. Thyme, mint, sage, and marjoram are among those that, when done properly, will remain fragrant for weeks.

Choosing Bathroom Faucets That Fit In With Your Bathroom Style
It’s time again to fix that faucet. You’re sick of the ‘drip, drip, drip’ from your bathroom sink that keeps you awake until all hours of the morning. It’s not the washer in the faucet itself that’s gone bad this time; it’s the whole apparatus. You go to Lowe’s or Home Depot and wind up staring at the huge selection before you slack jawed because you have no idea what to choose. You need help.
Stick With What You Know
The first thing you need to do is decide if you want to replace your bathroom faucet with the exact same style as before or go for something new. Replacing your faucet with the same style is the easiest route to go. You can remove the faucet from your sink and bring it with you to your local hardware store where you can buy the matching replacement. Of course if this isn’t possible or even feasible, your chore becomes a bit more complicated. There are many different types of mounting for your faucet and you will need to be aware of what type yours is before simply going and purchasing the new fixture. This is actually the hardest step in choosing your new faucet because the one that you really liked at the store may not work with the current configuration of your sink.
Determine Your Type of Mounting
There are some common types of mounting such as widespread faucets which have individual hot and cold water handles; center set faucets with just one handle to control both hot and cold water and covering all three holes which may be in your sink for mounting; mini widespread faucets which are similar to the widespread variety but positioned closer together, single-hole which is similar to the center set design but with only one hole and last but not least, wall mounted, most commonly found on your bathtubs. The center set and mini-widespread faucets are both aimed at sinks with pre-drilled 4″ holes and some of the single-holed faucets include covers allowing them to be used on a sink with 4″ pre-drilled holes. Needless to say if you have one of the other types, you would be best going for a replacement of the same kind.
It’s all down to aesthetics once you have worked out which type of mount your sink has. It is a matter of personal preference as to which finish will look the best and complement the rest of your bathroom. If your bathroom has decor of an antique flavor you may decide to go with a classical style of rounded edges and flowery embellishments. On the other hand if it is modern is design, sharper and geometric angles may be more appropriate.
Add the Finishing Touches
After choosing a faucet, you just have to install it, right? Not so fast - you need to decide on a finish. Bathroom fixtures can be found in many different finishes and materials. While chrome and stainless steel are the most common, every finish and material has its own pros and cons. The most common (stainless steel and chrome) are prone to scratching and show fingerprints easily. Brass is very attractive, but rusts. Brushed nickel has a nice flat finish, but is pricey and the plating eventually wears off. Know what choices are available too you before deciding on a finish.
There are even choices as far as the handles are concerned with some faucets. Once again these should be matched up to the decor of the rest of your bathroom. All that is left now is to take home your new faucet and fit it. Not only will you be free of the dripping noise, you are also likely to receive many compliments on what can only be described as one of the most basic bathroom items of all time.
