Are you looking for a dazzling, brilliant diamond that will catch the eyes of everyone in the room? Then you need to understand the different types of diamond cuts.

Even the flawless diamond will look dull and less than brilliant with the wrong cut. Even the color and clarity of the diamond will be less admirable if the diamond cut is wrong. The cut will give the diamond its style and help minimize any obvious flaws in the diamond.

The Ideal Cut

Shallow, ideal and deep are the three types of diamond cuts. If a diamond is cut too shallow, it won’t reflect much light, and therefore will have a duller appearance. The shallow cut is less-than-perfect if you’re looking for a quality diamond cut.

Even though a deep cut diamond will appear larger than it actually is, it will also be dark and dull because the light does not reflect off the top of the diamond, but instead is lost from the sides of the diamond.

As you might guess, the ideal cut is best. It is a cut that is not too deep and not too shallow, but just right for the light to reflect off the top of the diamond.

Balance and Brilliance

So how do you get the ideal diamond cut? After all, the cut can determine the grade of the diamond and create a significant difference in the beauty of the diamond. The quality of a diamond cut is based on how deep and how wide the cut is.

For an ideal cut, the depth and width should be balanced, and not too deep nor too shallow to create just the right angles of light reflection. The modern jeweler’s job is made much easier with computer programs that help design diamond cuts that allow for maximum light reflection and brilliance of the cut diamond. The cut of the diamond is an important decision when choosing a diamond.
