We all know that the common stereotype among PC gamers is that they never leave the house. Now this is probably true for some- but everyone has to go outside at some point in time. And when that happens, PC gamers should be able to take their gaming experience with them! But are laptops ready for the demand today’s PC games put on system requirements?

Options For Mobile Gamers

The gaming laptop has finally dropped in value so that the average consumer can buy one without breaking the bank. Advances in technology have allowed laptops to be more powerful, yet also be smaller in size.

First up, we have the processor. Processors are the heart of all laptops- and likewise, they need to be powerful to get the most speed out of a computer. Recent technologies such as Quad-Core technology have even let manufacturers split a processor into four separate entities- creating the ultimate solution for multitasking.

Hard drives are another feature of laptops that could go with some further improvement. As of current, laptops commonly stay away from higher RPM speeds, because it creates excessive heat and takes up too much space in some cases. This is a loss for laptop owners, but the drop in RPM is quickly becoming less of a problem as other technologies are advancing.

Next we have the graphics card. The graphics card is what renders all the guns, ammo, enemies, and graphics that you will interact with on your laptop. Obviously this is a rather important component, and thus, it should be of good quality. Sadly, the latest and greatest in graphics cards aren’t available in mini formats yet- although good mobile graphics cards can still be had.

Downfalls For Mobile Gamers

One of the biggest flaws that gamers will notice is battery life. PC gaming laptops will typically drain a laptop in just a couple of hours, depending on the performance and options. This is compared to normal laptops that can often get 10 hours of battery life without problem. PC gamers on laptops can carry a charger with them- but this will help heat up the laptop and require more cooling.

Laptop users are accustomed to the touchpad that comes with laptops, but trying to play games with them just doesn’t cut it. There are mice for laptops, but this requires a flat surface- and mobile users will attest to the fact that a good flat surface can be hard to come by.

Closing Comments

Mobile gaming is becoming popular in today’s culture, but the hardware and technology isn’t always as advanced as we would like it to be. Be prepared to shell out a lot more money for gaming laptops. Also take into effect that excess heat can ruin the life of a laptop- meaning you should invest in cooling pads or extra fans for best effect.
