I became an Independent ACN Rep in 1995 mainly because a family member was excited, and I thought it made sense to try to take some money back from the rich big three telephone companies at that time. Deregulation had created opportunities for people to save on exhorbitant per minute calling rates from newer companies like ACN. Just after I joined ACN though I found Cognigen via Google, which offered long distance rates at about the same cost per minute as ACN and no Rep signup or recurring fees whatsoever.
